Bullshit vaccine

There are innumerable theories and ideas that people or groups have had or have. Most of them are, at best, incorrect. They are often false. They are often false and dangerous.
For some reason, it is politically correct "to be open-minded", and leave room for everyone.
Which, when it comes to dessert recipes, is acceptable. But when, for example, we talk about health, it becomes at least problematic that false theories remain alive. Humankind has always benefited from killing false theories.

Take for example the story of the Hungarian doctor who discovered the importance of antiseptic procedures. It is a very sad story, but it tells us so much about the stubbornness with which people cling to their ideas, even in the face of evidence. For the curious, here is the story.

After centuries and centuries of science, we still have people who decide things about their lives based on the horoscope, people who treat themselves with homeopathy, parents who don't vaccinate their children. By the way, I know a person who got married, based on the signs of the zodiac. it's over badly: a Vietnam!
If questioned, they often say that these things "work". And they are probably really convinced of it.
Why are we so in trouble?

Because the culture of experiment is missing.

Experimenting means really putting an idea to the test.

I could convince myself that eating chocolate is good for hemorrhoids. And maybe even find a lot of people convinced that I'm right. A lot of "testimonials". Incidentally, those who advocate such theories usually have a chocolate factory. Look at the coincidences of life!
Do these "life experiences" have any scientific validity?
 Absolutely no.

Here below is the typical face of the happy charlatan ...

If I wanted to test the effectiveness of my chocolate in treating hemorrhoids, I should create at least two groups, both composed of "happy" people suffering from hemorrhoids. And give my chocolate to only one of the groups. After some time, using objective measurements (here we ask a proctologist who reads us for help in the comments), we could compare  the two groups. But we would only be at the beginning. Because there may be other factors that we have not manipulated, which could better explain the results. The variables involved in a given phenomenon are many, and sometimes long work is needed to identify them.

The more important a thing is, the better it is if you rely on theories that have been tested as hard as possible.

For those who instead want to rely on pseudosciences, given that the date of death could be closer than it seems, I recommend starting to view the wonderful epitaphs of Pessoa.

This is my favorite. I hope, thanks to science, to use it as late as possible.

We, that both lie here, loved. This denies us.
My lost hand crumbles where her breasts' lack is.
Love's known, each lover is anonymous.
We both felt fair. Kiss, for that was our kiss.
